UP Democrats create their own committee!

We recently formed our own committee! We are still members of the Delaware County Democratic Committee, now led by David Landau, but are no longer part of the Mid-County Democrats organization. We made the change in order to be more successful as a political organization with a much stronger capacity. We are also committed to being more politically active with the issues before the Council and creating an organization that can win elections.

The service will take place on Saturday September 25, 2010 from 11 A.M to 1 P.M at the Providence Friends Meeting House.

Your Open Space is in danger!

UPT Council and by extension UPT are in serious trouble. After years of failing to budget appropriately for the township's needs, Council was forced to increase taxes and cut services this year due to a budget shortfall. The Council lacks the ability to usefully engage the public on key issues. Though it has set up a financial-review task force, it is getting little support or insight from it. Furthermore, Council is creating a debacle over how to handle the last $1.7M of its Open Space bond funds. Rather than using the funds to purchase land suitable for a recreation area, it first sought to develop woodland Scott Park (the Lavin Tract) into ball fields. Now, it is looking into selling parcels of Scott Park: land that residents voted to save for open space.Learn more here.

Having one Democrat on the UPT Council is not enough. After trying to be a team player for his first term and getting nowhere, Bill Clinton is committed to taking a serious loyal opposition stance on the Council. But one vote of challenge is not enough. In the last five years UPT Democrats have lost two very close Council races.

With your help, we will establish a focus and commitment to creating a more proactive leadership within the UPT Council and electing Democrats to local office.
